Learn to Dive

We run training sessions for new divers over Winter at Leith Academy.

We run a special session for people new to the sport where you can try on scuba equipment and take your first breaths underwater, guided by our friendly and highly experienced instructors.

If you’re keen to progress, you can begin formal training to become a qualified Ocean Diver. Training consists of a series of theory lectures, pool dives and sheltered open-water dives which run from October through to February.

The cost for the initial try dive will be £10 which is refundable if you join the club. Please get in touch to let us know you’re interested, as spaces are limited. Email info@sqsac.co.uk.

Pool Training – Weekends October – January
Regular pool sessions where trainees progress through lessons to learn the basic skills required to dive competently and safely. Club equipment is available to borrow so there is minimal cost while getting started. Qualified members also use the pool sessions to try out new equipment, practice rescue drills, develop their instructing skills, or just go for a swim.

Open Water Training – Weekends December – February
Once basic skills are mastered in the pool, we organise day trips to the sheltered waters of the west coast sea lochs to complete the training syllabus. This is carried out over three days/five dives, or longer if needed to achieve a sufficient standard of diving. Dates, equipment, and transport are arranged to suit availability of trainees and instructors.

Note
We can train only take on trainees who are 18+ years old.
You don’t need to be an amazing swimmer but should be reasonably confident in the water.
